Fire safety training your group will actually remember.
John Hutchcroft has trained more than 50,000 people across Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois — fire departments, civic clubs, senior care staff, child care providers, workplaces, and families — on how home fires really start, spread, and how to survive them.
John Hutchcroft
John Hutchcroft has been a leader in the fire protection industry for over 40 years — a lifelong resident of Eastern Iowa who has called the Quad Cities home for the past 26 years. He has served as a guest speaker for fire departments, civic groups, churches, schools, and businesses throughout the region, providing fire safety training to more than 50,000 people.
John is a published author with a monthly magazine column on fire safety, and has appeared as a guest and guest host on WOC-AM Radio's "The Home Environment Show."
“Sobering facts on home fire safety”
Guest speaker John Hutchcroft told the club how the nature of home fires has changed in recent years — and why that's made many older smoke detectors obsolete.

What most families don't know about home fires
A sample of the facts John shares in every presentation — the kind that changes how people think about their own homes.
A fire occurs somewhere in the United States roughly every 12 seconds.
More than 80% of fatal fires occur in the home — not at work or in public buildings.
Adults over 65 are 2.5 times more likely to die in a fire, due to memory, medication, and mobility.
About 1.5 million Americans are injured by fire every year.
Most children under age 10 instinctively hide from fire instead of escaping, when alerted.
Optical (photoelectric) smoke detectors respond faster to slow, smoldering fires than standard ionization units.
Trusted by fire departments, employers, and civic clubs
Thank you for taking the time to speak to our fire department members at our monthly meeting. It was both informative and interesting. This is exactly the type of information we need to take to the general public, not only for their safety but also ours as firefighters.

Excellent presentations at our in-service meetings. Our staff found the information extremely interesting and valuable.
Beverly MitalCEO, Guardian Family Care, Inc.
It was a great presentation by John Hutchcroft, and some very eye-opening issues. We really thought the quiz was a great tool to use to really see what people know about fires.

Thank you very much for coming to our Pre-K classroom to talk to the children about fire safety. They learned that firefighters are there to help them, and also to Stop, Drop, and Roll.
